A Look at the Phillies

The Phillies have been to the World Series two years in a row.  They won it all in 2008 and last year they came up short against the infamous New York Yankees.  This off season was long and a lot of things went on as far as rehab, acquisitions, and releases.  With Spring training coming to an end and opening day right around the corner, here is a look at the 2010 Philadelphia Phillies roster as of now.

The infield will look relatively the same except at the third base position.  Pedro Feliz was not resigned and instead, Placido Polanco returns for his second stay with the Phillies.  Last year he batted above .280 and hit ten home runs.  He also drove in 72 runs and stole seven bases.  During spring training Polanco Read the rest of this entry »

Phils’ Best Offseason Move was ___.

http://www3.allaroundphilly.com/blogs/delcotimes/ryanl/uploaded_images/Ruiz-726590.jpgWe’re back with another installment of “Fill It In” where we give you a sentence and ask your opinion. The Phillies have made a ton of moves so far this offeason. Amarro and the rest of the management have been busy. These moves range from little ones like signing minor leaguers, to big ones like trading 1 Cy Young winner for another and bringing back Placido Polanco for 3rd base. The offseason isn’t over yet but Think over everything they have done so far and complete this sentence:

The Phillies best 0ffseason move so far was ________.

Our Opinion: Locking up 2 key pieces of the championship team- Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz. Any Phillies fan realizes that these were great moves. Read the rest of this entry »

Cold Beer Here!!

85139944JD025_PHILADELPHIA_So, if you were watching the Phillies game last night, or if you were watching ESPN this morning, I’m sure that you are aware of the incident that happened at Wrigley Field in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Here is how I would have called the play: “Pedro on the mound, here comes the pitch…that ball is smacked deep to center field, Victorino going back, way back, at the warning track…WHAT THE (insert your own word here)!!!!  A fan just threw a beer at Shane Victorino.  Talk about getting a mid inning refreshment…hopefully it wasn’t Natty Ice…Shane looks like he’s a Corona kinda guy.”   Read the rest of this entry »

What A Joke! Victorino Gets Tossed From The Outfield

How many people were as confused as I was when Shane got tossed from Sunday’s game? The call was ridiculous and there’s no way he should have been ejected. It was so crazy that it was even a top story on ESPN.

It was good to see Shane’s reaction. Seeing him sprinting towards the ump and tossing Paul Bako out of the way shows his intensity and excitement for the game. That’s how the players should react- with heart. Especially after the horrible strike-out call made to end the prior inning. It would have been more exciting if he would have leveled the guy but this team can’t afford Victorino getting suspended since they’ve been so bad lately.

If any fans around the league were planning to use Shane’s reaction against him, I think he shut them up in his post game interview. He talked about how he loves Ed (the guy who tossed him) and how he would never lay a hand on him.

Our video got deleted so we had to replace it with this picture. It is a good image from Yahoo here.

Bran-Torino Pulls Through

Phillies add a fourth All-Star. Shane Victorino has deservingly won the NL Final Vote and the hearts of the American voters. It was a close race all along between Victorino and Giants third basemen Pablo Sandoval.  The race was so close, in fact, that MLB announced it as one of the tightest since its creation 7 years ago. There were many lead changes in both the AL and NL races and a record number of votes were submitted. The winner in the American League is Tiger’s Brandon Inge who was paired with Shane throughout the week.

In my opinion there were three main reasons Victorino won the competition. One is that the Phillies are the defending World Series champs so it seems like everywhere I go, there are Phillies fans. Another is his pairing with Inge. This gained him the support of all the excited Tigers fans who were motivated to vote because of their first place team. The final reason was his game winning double last night against the Reds. If anyone was doubting Shane as an All-Star that changed last night when he showed his skills to the world.

Some people will still say he does not deserve it but it will be harder to prove now. Hey, I am just glad he got voted in and not selected by Charlie Manual out of pitty. Here is the full story.
