Don’t Believe All The Flyers Stories

This is a crazy offseason for the Flyers. There are reports saying that Gagne will likely be traded, reports saying that Carter will likely be traded, reports saying that the Flyers are in the hunt for Kovalchuk, reports that they will attempt to bring in or sign a new starting goalie, reports saying they’ll likely trade one of their many talented defensemen, etc.

At this point, too much is going on to speculate. Read the rest of this entry »

From Underachievers to Overachievers: Great Run Flyers

Philadelphia Flyers' Jeff Carter celebrates his second-period goal against the Montreal Canadiens. The Flyers reach the Stanley Cup finals with a 4-2 win, their first trip to the finals since 1997.

Last night ended far too abruptly.  After the Flyers scored the tying goal in the 3rd period, I thought for sure their Cinderella playoff run would continue to game 7. But the Blackhawks, who outshot the Flyers all night, had other plans and in a fluke shot the Stanley Cup was theirs.

All I can say about the Flyers season is WOW! Read the rest of this entry »

Flyers Game 2 Preview

Flyers goalie Brian Boucher notes, "We weren´t sharp around the front of the net" in Saturday´s loss.

Saturday’s game was a heartbreaker. They lost in overtime to the Bruins in Boston which makes game 2 that much more important. This is a must win because falling behind in a series 2-0 is hard to come back from.

There were some good and bad signs in the exciting game one. The first period and overtime were the bad signs. They were out played physically and in every statistical aspect of the game. In the overtime period, the Flyers were out-shot 15-4. You won’t win many overtime games giving up that many shots in less than 13 minutes.

They also made mistakes and didn’t capitalize on chances. For instance, Carcillo had a break away in overtime but wasn’t patient enough to get the puck past Rask. Read the rest of this entry »

It All Comes Down to This

A referee gets between Philadelphia...

With so much excitement and anxiety surrounding the Flyers next 2 games, you can be assured that they will be entertaining. Tonight they will start a season ending, home and home series against the Rangers where they control their own destiny. They only need 2 points to clinch a playoff birth but the Rangers will be fighting hard because they want to make the playoffs just as much as the Flyers.

They have been playing well as of late and should be able to put it away. Read the rest of this entry »

Stevens Gets the Axe

There is no doubt that the Flyers have very talented team.  They have enough talent that can take them all the way to the Stanley Cup and win it.  Right now though, their record really doesn’t show how good they are.  They sit at 13-11-1, and are the epitome of inconsistency.  You can be watching them play one game and win it 6-1, and think to yourself that they are the best team in hockey.  Then the next game, they lost 4-1 and you think to yourself that they have no chance of going anywhere.  So what’s the problem?

Yesterday, the Flyers fired head coach John Stevens.  As a result, they hired Peter Laviolette.  Laviolette led the Carolina Read the rest of this entry »

Flyers Struggle…but Have a Break

The Philadelphia Flyers started off the season HOT.  Their first three games were wins.  After the third game, I was very confident that this team was going to be a force.  However, after their past two games, it is very clear that a lot of things need to be fixed.  I am by no means saying that this team is no longer a force haha, it is only 5 games into the season.  I am saying though that they are not perfect (no team is), and need to play consistently.

In the first two games, new goaltender Ray Emery only let up a total of two goals.  In the last three games, he let up a total of twelve.  That cannot happen.  It is not all his fault though.  The defense has been playing sloppy at times and they have been allowing shooting lanes to develop.  I did Read the rest of this entry »

Flyers Built to Win Now…The Long Breakdown

It has been awhile since a post has been done on the Flyers, so here is a very long one about what the Flyers have going for them this season! Be prepared to read haha!

The Philadelphia Flyers season opens up on October 2nd, which is just over a week away.  Last season ended with a disappointing series that was lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in first round of the playoffs.  The defeat definitely left a bad taste in the players mouth for a couple of reasons.  First, it came against cross state rivals.  Second because they were clearly outplayed.  Finally, because no team wants to work all season, get into the playoffs, and lose in the first round.  However that is all behind them now.  The preseason is winding down, and there is nothing but a positive vibe buzzing around the Flyers organization.

The team has it all.  They have the seasoned veterans that have been on the team and understand the system.  They have the young fresh players that are looking forward to contribute in any way possible.  Then there are the new additions to the team that are excited to come into an organization that wants to win, and wants to win now.   Read the rest of this entry »
