Pedro Gets the Start

Lets Hope He's Smiling After Saturday
With the series at 1-1, it now moves out to Colorado. Tomorrow night, at 9:37 PM, Pedro will make his first playoff appearance in a while. The decision to use Pedro in my eyes came due to a couple of factors. In the previous game, Cole Hamels early departure forced Charlie Manuel to use Joe Blanton, who may have gotten the start tomorrow if that had not been the case. J.A. Happ has been very productive for the Phillies this year. However, he is inexperienced when it comes to post season play. If he gets rattled early, that may lead to the downfall of the Phillies.
With Pedro getting the start, the Phillies get a lot of things. The most important being experience. In his career, Pedro has a post season record of 6-2 and a total of 13 appearances. His ERA is a pretty solid 3.40. Going out to Colorado in a hostile environment should not phase Pedro. Read the rest of this entry »
Tough Loss But Some Promising Signs

For the first few innings of today’s game, it was hard to believe we were watching the same Phillies team that did so well in game 1. They found themselves in a hole. They got the loss but a few good signs came out of it. They showed resilience and their ability to fight back even when they are losing late in games. They could have been like the Rockies yesterday- fallen behind 5-0 and not doing anything about it. But they stuck in it. Although the bulpen was shaky at times, they had their moments too. One clutch situation was when Scott Eyre came in with the bases loaded and nobody out. That’s the most difficult situations to come into as a relief pitcher but he handled it with ease Read the rest of this entry »
Lee… Another Strong Outing
Cliff Lee got the start today. He took over the number one spot in the rotation for the playoffs, as Cole Hamels will now pitch tomorrow. Cliff Lee had never pitched in a playoff game before today.
He came out and he gave the fans a scare at first. He was giving up hits and putting himself in jams that could have easily put the Rockies ahead in the game early. However, he eventually settled in nicely. Perhaps he needed to work out the butterflies and that was why he was off a little in the beginning. Anyway, he ended up allowing six hits and one earned run in nine innings of work. Three of those hits came in the first three innings and two came in the last. So Read the rest of this entry »
