Villanova 2010 Preview

S. REYNOLDS Relishes hero’s rolePhilly had high hopes for Villanova going into this year but they all came crashing down in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. The team that was ranked 5th in the Preseason AP poll and in the top 5 for most of the regular season, ended this year on an extreme low. After starting 22-2, they lost 6 of their last 9 games. They barely made it past a 15 seed in round 1 of the tournament and lost in round 2. Many fans were disappointed and now have to wait half a year to get back into basketball. Here is an early preview of what to expect next season.

Key Departures: Scottie Reynolds, Reggie Redding

Charlotte Upsets (15) Temple

http://flyernews.com/files/images/26bc6f4f48beb4577cf8bad7e37aedb7.jpgTemple has been hot lately. They were undefeated in conference play. Their only loss since December 1st was to Kansas and they are ranked 15th in the country. That has all changed after their game in Charlotte tonight. They lost to the 49ers 74-64 for one reason- early foul trouble.

Temple has the power to beat almost anyone as they showed with a 10 point win over Villanova (their only loss of the season). But when their best players get into foul trouble and need to sit on the bench for most of the 2nd half, they won’t have a good shot against anybody. Read the rest of this entry »

That’s right… for the first time in 30 years Temple University’s football team is playing in a Bowl game and it’s just hours away. At 4:30 pm today on ESPN, Temple will square off against UCLA from the Pac 10. UCLA comes from a more powerful conference and has had a more prominent football program over the past few years but none of that matters right now. Temple may be the underdog in Vegas but they definitely won’t show that in their play this afternoon.Win or lose, this is a huge milestone for the Temple football program and a story that everyone in Philadelphia should be aware of. Temple Upsets ‘Nova…More Coming?

Sunday’s Temple/Villanova game was as exciting as a college game can get and I was lucky enough to be in attendance for this Big-5 brawl.

Temple came into this game against (3) Villanova as an underdog but they had the packed house at the Liacouras Center behind them the entire game. They also had a respectable 7-2 record and one of their losses came to (15) Georgetown by 1 point- so I knew Villanova shouldn’t be taking this team lightly.

It looked like it would be over early as the Wildcats stormed out to a 33-19 lead with about 4:30 to go in the first half. The crowd seemed out of it and everything was going Nova’s way-until Temple started to heat up. They ended the half on a 12-4 run. The second half was more of the same as they started on an 11-0 run behind incredible 3 point shooting to grab the lead. Temple would never look back and held off Villanova 65-75.
