Weekly Prediction: 2-2

The Sixers have a busy week with 4 games between Tuesday and Sunday. Of those 4 games only one of them is against a team with a record worse than their own. The Cavs have all but locked up the top spot in the East and the Heat and Bobcats are in a close battle for the 7th and 8th playoff spots.

The Pacers (20-43) are the worst of the 4 and happen to be the first game of the week. The Sixers are riding off a big double-digit win against the Raptors and should be able to lock this one up. The teams have been pretty evenly matched this year though. That was evident back in January when they played back to back games and each team won 1 by at least 10 points. Sixers Get the Celtics Tonight

http://media.lehighvalleylive.com/sports_impact/photo/sixers-nets-a2b2cb03d5fb1049.jpgThe Sixers are riding a 4 game losing streak into town tonight for a home game with the Boston Celtics. On this four game losing streak, the Sixers are playing some of the league’s best but losing by large margins. They lost each game by an average of 15 points.  The games aren’t even close and it shows us where the Sixers really stand.

They have a chance to pull out of this slump tonight though. They will be home against Boston who is currently the 4th seed in the East. But the Celtics have had their share of troubles as of late. Injuries and age have slowed down the big three and they even lost to the NETS last week. If the Nets can do it, the Sixers have a shot. Read the rest of this entry »

It Was Fun While It Lasted

So the Sixers announced today that Iverson’s year with the team was over. Unfortunately, it ended in a way nobody wanted it to- with his young daughter having a health issue serious enough to keep him away from the game. I’m not a parent but I can imagine that he must be going through some serious stuff right now and I wish his family the best.

The 25 game rental of Allen Iverson was fun while it lasted. He put some extra people in the seats, got the Sixers their first All-Star in a while and brought back memories from when this team had heart. Read the rest of this entry »

The Sixers Show Signs of Life

The Sixers are getting hot right before the All-Star break which might throw some kinks into any trades they were thinking about doing. At 19-31, they still aren’t great but their 4 game winning streak is proof this team still has some fight left in it.

Besides a win against the Nets, the other 3 teams they beat in this short winning streak all have much better records than them. They’ve also been putting up a lot of points during the winning streak Read the rest of this entry »

Dalembert Playing With Heart

Main ImageIn the midst of the tragedy that has struck Haiti, Samuel Dalembert’s former home, Sammy has emerged as one of the best players on this Sixers team. People have always given him heat in Philly- saying hes underachieving or that the Sixers should part ways with him- but for the past 2 weeks, Dalembert has been playing the best basketball of his NBA career and the Sixers are benefiting because of it.

Early this week, Dalembert spent a few days in Haiti doing everything he could to give back and help. Read the rest of this entry »

When Iverson Returns…

…we will see the REAL Sixers team for the first time since November 14th.

I know they’ve been losing horribly for the past month or two. After starting the season 4-6, they’ve gone 3-14 and have lost ugly games to good teams and bad teams. ESPN.com currently has them ranked 26th (up from 29th) in their NBA power ranking list and they are the second worst team in the Eastern Conference, ahead of the Nets.

But the team we had been painfully watching for over a month wasn’t the Sixers team that came in to the season. We were watching a severely banged up team missing two of it’s most important, exciting, young players in Speights and Lou Willams. These two are back (a month early) and the benefits are already being felt. Read the rest of this entry »

Tonights the Night

Tonight is the night that everyone has been waiting for.  Allen Iverson will start his first game in a 76′ers uniform since he departed in 2006.  How will he be greeted? Boos? Cheers?  My guess will be a standing ovation lasting at least five minutes.  Why do I think this?  Well because the Sixers game is sold out for the first time this season.  The stands will be packed with fans there for one reason only… to see Allen Iverson play.  No one in that arena will be there tonight for any Read the rest of this entry »

76ers Need Consistency

The truth is that the Philadelphia 76ers are a talented young team.  While they stand at 5-8, they are a far better team than their record shows.  Last year they were a playoff team.  Their problem this year lies with their inconsistency.  You can’t score 141 points one game, and then 74 the next; it just doesn’t work like that.  Their inconsistency is not just with the offense, they need to come out and play hard defense every game. So Much For AI’s Return to Philly…

http://www.man-hairstyle.com/blog/uploads/2009/02/allen_iverson1.jpgI bought my ticket to Friday’s game between the Sixers and the Grizzlies because it was hailed as “Allen Iverson’s return to Philly”. Who wouldn’t want to go to that game? It doesn’t matter if you don’t like the Sixers right now or if your not happy with the way they are playing. This was the return of Allen Iverson- the greatest basketball player to come through this city in the past 15 years.

When I heard the news a few weeks ago that he parted ways with Memphis, it was a downer. Now I’m just going to the game to watch the Sixers play the Grizzlies- what’s cool about that? Don’t get me wrong, I like going to Sixers games, but him leaving takes a lot away from it.

Iverson Debate!!

So last night I was at a friends house and I got into a little debate while discussing sports.  I am a huge Iverson fan and we were talking basketball.  Then I made the statement that Allen Iverson could have played in the NFL.  Someone disagreed with me so of course I had to state my argument.

First let me tell you his argument: He stated that Allen Iverson would not be able to tackle anyone in the NFL.  He said that Iverson is too small and is not athletic enough.  He stated that Iverson could not jump well.  He said just because he played well in high school doesn’t mean he could do anything in the NFL.

My argument:  Allen Iverson was an ALL STATE player as a junior in high school.  He also was player of the year.  He was the Michael Vick before Michael Vick.  He wasn’t too small.  NFL corners range from 5 ft. 10 to 6 ft. 2.  Iverson is a generous six foot and weighs about 170.  However, if he would have focused on football, he would have gained weight and put on a lot of muscle and could have gotten up to a bulky 185, which is exactly how much Pro Bowler NFL cornerback Asante Samuel weighs.  Too say Allen Iverson is unathletic is just a very stupid statement.  He was possibly the most athletic player on the basketball court whenever he played.  He is so quick it’s ridiculous.  Oh and yeah, Iverson can’t jump???…dumb statement… It’s not like Iverson doens’t hold his states record for most interceptions in a game… 7… Oh and he was an AMAZING kick returner and punt returner.  There is no doubt in my mind that he could have had a very successful career in the NFL…

What do you think??
