Vick Upgraded…Hank Hosed…

Hank Baskett #84 of the Philadelphia Eagles catches a touchdown pass over Aaron Ross #31 of the New York Giants at Lincoln Financial Field on November 9, 2008 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.About two weeks ago, the Eagles roster needed to be trimmed down to fifty-three players.  Due to that, Michael Vick was forced to be put on the excempt list.  At that point in time it was no big deal because he was ineligable for another three weeks.  Out of the fifty-three players, the Eagles kept a total of seven wide recievers on the team.  SEVEN??? That is an absurd amount.  The ideal number for the average team is about five.  I guess it is a good problem to have when the competition to make the team was that close.

However, the concept of keeping seven of those wr’s for the whole season soon came to an end.  Michael Vick has been promoted to the official 53 man roster.  As a result, good ole’ Hank Baskett got the hose.  The Eagles have officially released Hank Baskett.  I feel that the Eagles needed some extra time to let the position battling at WR play out a little more.  From the time that the official 53 man roster needed to be in until when the released Baskett, I have a feeling Baskett, Brown, and Gibson were all fighting Read the rest of this entry »

Eagles Trade Rumors: Wide Receivers

http://blog.pennlive.com/nickfierro/2007/09/eaglesunis.jpgAccording to a few sources, the Eagles are checking out their trade options and keeping the doors open to deal one or more of their wide receivers. To me, trading someone like Reggie Brown makes a lot of sense. They have a ton of receivers on the roster for this season (8 to be exact). Nobody uses 8 wideouts. That’s absurd. If they trade one or more of these guys they can free up some roster spots for the fourth QB that they may keep around or even some depth on the defensive side of the ball.

Unloading Reggie Brown’s contract and his underachieving abilities to another team would end up helping them out in the long run. He has a bigger contract than some others and in my opinion, he’s not even one of the top 3 receivers on the roster if they keep him around. There have been some good young receivers that have shown they deserve roster spots during training camp and they would be cheaper to keep around.
