Sorting Through the Sammy Trade
After years of speculation, the Sixers front office finally pulled off a move sending Samuel Dalembert packing. The deal sends him to the Kings in exchange for the overpaid Andres Nocioni and young big man Spencer Hawes. Many fans are relieved that the Sixers have departed from the Dalembert era but the trade leaves a lot to sort through and many questions left unanswered. Including what the Sixers do with the second overall pick next week.
First of all, we should sort through the players and contracts the Sixers traded for. Nocioni’s contract is much larger than he deserves. He was good with the Bulls but had a sub par 2009 in his first full year with the Kings. He came off the bench on one of the league’s worst teams and only averaged 8.5ppg. A Pick that Could Change It All
If you caught the NBA Draft Lottery in between the Phillies and Flyers games last night, you witnessed an exciting moment in the history of the franchise. The Sixers, who had a horrible season, had luck on their side and landed the 2nd overall pick in the June 24th NBA Draft- a pick that can change the path of this franchise for the next decade.
They were expected to get the 6th pick and the results went as planned from pick number 14 to pick number 7. When it hit pick number 6, the Sixers name never showed up. It got down to the top 3 and the announcer showed the New Jersey Nets card. Finally, the Sixers card came out at number 2 and they walked away with one of the luckiest bounces in team history.
