Philly Sports Chat’s Fantasy League
The winner will NOT receive this trophy...
For the first time EVER, PhillySportsChat.com will be searching for 9 other individuals to enter the Philly Sports Chat fantasy football league. We will have a team and there will be a contest to fill the other 7-9 spots (depending on how many worthy entries we recieve).
The fantasy league will be through Yahoo and the draft will be held online on Thursday, August 26th at 7:00 pm.
We’re pretty good so don’t expect to win. However, if the champion of the league happens to be somebody besides us, that individual will have the title of PhillySportsChat Fantasy King/Queen until next season, their picture and team record will be placed on the homepage for everyone to admire and they will recieve a small prize from us.
Here’s how to enter: Read the rest of this entry »
Where the Eagles Rank in Madden
Madden 2011 has hit stores and for those of you who play the game, here’s where the Eagles stack up as a team and as individuals:
NFC EAST
Dallas 87
New York Giants 81
Philadelphia 80
Washington 76
The Eagles rank second to last in the NFC East which is a downgrade from last season. Read the rest of this entry »
Eagles’ Offensive Position Battles for Dummies
The 2010 NFL preseason kicked off last night with the Hall of Fame game between the Cowboys and Bengals. It’s hard to sit through an entire Eagles training camp game which means it was impossible for me to sit through an entire Bengals preseason game. I did watch a bit here and there and the Cowboys unfortunately won.
The Eagles will start their preseason this Friday against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Philadelphia. The Preseason really doesn’t mean anything for the team in general. Last season the Eagles went 1-3 and ended the season with a much better record. In 2008 they went 2-2 and came one touchdown away from the Super Bowl.
The Preseason is primarily for backups and players battling for position or a roster spot to prove themselves to the fans and coaches Read the rest of this entry »
Hottest Tickets in Philly this Fall
The Phillies are in the heat of another pennant race and they’ll hopefully be playing into October. However, besides them, the other 3 Philadelphia sports teams will be starting up and there are some exciting games that Philly sports fans might want to get tickets too.
The Flyers announced their schedule a few weeks ago and the NBA has yet to release a full schedule but the Sixers already know when they’ll be seeing the Heat. The Eagles have some good games at home as well. Here are the top three games in Philly this Fall (in no specific order). Save the dates.
1. Sixers vs Heat - October 27th
We don’t have to wait long to see the Miami Heat. The Sixers open the season with them on October 17th. It will be the first game of the year played in the newly named “Wells Fargo Center”. Read the rest of this entry »
3 Toughest Games for the Eagles

It will be even harder to beat the Packers if Rodgers brings the 'stache back.
This game makes the list partially because it’s the first game of the season for a very young team and partially because the Packers are really really good. It will be Kolb’s first game as the leader of the franchise and he will be met by one of the league’s best defenses.
The one bright side to this game is the fact that they’re playing in Philly. The home field advantage helps a lot but in the big picture, it doesn’t make it any easier to take down one of the NFC’s best. Read the rest of this entry »
The Best of Year 1
So today’s the 1st birthday of Philly Sports Chat. It’s been a fun year and we’ve met some cool people along the way. So much has happened in the world of Philly sports over the past year. Here is my favorite post/moment from every pro team we write about. Click on the name of the post to read it:
Phillies: A Poem For the Spankees (October 28th, 2009)
By the end of October, the Phillies were in the heat of their 2nd World Series in a row. The Yankees, their fans and the New York media had been trashing Philadelphia for days. There were even some places dissing Harry Kalas. It made our hatred for the Yankees grow to a whole new level and it inspired Matt to throw together this epic rap dissing them. Read it!
Eagles: Do You Love DeSean As Much As He Loves Himself (video)? (November 17th, 2009)
This post stood out to me even through all the other big moments that happened to the Birds the past year (like signing Vick). The video clip included in the post never get’s old. It’s a clip that first aired on ESPN in November. It’s basically 2 minutes of DeSean Jackson explaining to the world why he’s the man and why he can’t be stopped. Check it out if you missed it.
Sixers: Tonight’s the Night and It Was Fun While It Lasted (December 2009 - March 2010)
The biggest thing to happen to the Sixers in the existance of this blog was the coming and going of Allen Iverson. In December, we welcomed him to Philly with a post on the day of his first game and in March we said goodbye after 25 games. It was very exciting while it lasted and basically the only time the Sixers made serious news in the past year.
Flyers: From Underachievers to Overacheivers: Great Run Flyers (June 10th, 2010)
This post was a recap of the greatest Flyers season in quite some time which is why it gets the nod as favorite Flyers post of the season. There were posts that were more entertaining but we couldn’t leave out a post about the Flyers coming 2 wins shy of being Stanley Cup Champions. One post that came close for me was this post full of inspirational Flyers videos that we put together right before game 6.
That’s a look back at the last year in Philly sports. Thanks for all your support over the past year. It’s been fun. Also, don’t forget to contact us if you have any comments or reccomendations at phillysportschat@yahoo.com
Is Vick Really Worth It?
Millions of people hate Vick. Some Eagles fans hate Vick. Some Eagles fans even stopped watching the games because of Vick.
The Birds made a huge splash by signing him last season to jolt the offense but the wildcat plays rarely worked. He only had 3 total touchdowns and less than 100 rushing yards in 12 games. Now he’s entering his second year with the team and they’re paying him way more than last season. Do they expect to get more out of him? Read the rest of this entry »
Drafting Birds in Fantasy Football
The Eagles offense looks a lot different heading into this year than it did last year. There’s a different starting QB and RB and some of the offensive weapons that were little known around the league before last year are now household names.
As an Eagles fan, there’s always that desire to draft some Birds into your starting line up. I had Celek and Jackson last season and my co-writer tried to land McNabb in his drafts for as long as I can remember. If you’re getting ready for a fantasy draft in the next few months, here’s where the Eagles players stand.
Kevin Kolb-Let’s face it, Kolb isn’t going to go early in any drafts this year. That doesn’t mean he can’t be your starting QB but it would be a risk. In most fantasy rankings (Yahoo, CBS Sports, etc) Kolb is ranked as the 10-14th best QB. Read the rest of this entry »
Sizing Up The Eagles
The Eagles underwent serious changes this offseason but so have the rest of the NFC East teams. Here’s how they rank against the Cowboys, Giants and Redskins right now in terms of their offensive players.
QB- 4th. They shipped McNabb to the Redskins and handed the reigns over to a relatively untested prospect in Kevin Kolb. Read the rest of this entry »
Jackson’s Comments Out of Line?

DeSean Jackson had 2 of the most outstanding years in the NFL a young wide receiver could wish for with McNabb as his QB. Number 5 helped make Jackson one of the elite WRs in this league by finding him at least 50 yards downfield almost once a game. So were Jackson’s comments about the McNabb trade out of line?
A few days ago, Jackson spoke out about the trade in an interview and said Read the rest of this entry »
