Fantasy Football Update…

It is week 6 of the NFL season, and everyone now has an idea of how good or bad their fantasy football team is.  With Sunday approaching I thought it would be a good idea to give everyone an update on what has been happening in the fantasy world in the positions of QB, RB, and WR.

Quarterbacks: When it comes to quarterback play, no one can top Peyton Manning…obviously.  However, there are a few that are giving him a run for his money this year when it comes to total fantasy points.  Peyton leads the NFL in fantasy points scored as a QB.  Ben Roethlisberger is second and Matt Schaub is actually third.  McNabb would be in the top three I believe if he would not have been injured the first game.  Drew Brees surprisingly is not in the top ten.

Running Backs: Just as Peyton Manning is dominating the QB position for the most part, Adrian Peterson is dominating the RB field.  Behind Read the rest of this entry »

Good Show Today

The Eagles got the win today.  With a final score of 33-14, the Eagles displayed high intensity on both sides of the ball and showed their quick strike ability.  While it was an impressive performance, the Bucs are not even close to being on the talent level as the league elites.  However, that does not mean that todays victory did not count for anything.  Maybe the stats are a little deceiving because the opponents defense is soft, and maybe the turnovers forced won’t happen every game because an inexperienced QB wouldn’t make the same mistakes, but when taking a close look at the play of the Eagles today, I am very pleased.

First off, lets take a look at McNabb’s play.  His passer rating was virtually perfect.  He threw the ball 21 times completing 16 of them.  He tossed for Read the rest of this entry »

Kolb Looked Good But…

http://d.yimg.com/a/p/rids/20090927/i/r1345692336.jpg…I need to see some more of him before saying he’s ready to be the franchise’s QB when McNabb retires. I’m not taking anything away from what he did today against the Chiefs. He and the entire Eagles team played almost perfectly. Kolb through for 327 yards and 2 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing. McCoy had a great game in his first NFL start by gaining 84 yards on the ground and a nice touchdown run. The receivers and defense played well too.

It was the perfect way to go into the bye week. The Eagles got the win and got to rest McNabb, Westbrook and Curtis. The one thing I did notice while watching it on TV was the announcers saying things like “It’s clear the Eagles found the successor to McNabb in Kolb”. I can’t say that I agree just yet.

The Chiefs are arguably the worst team in the league right now and their defense is terrible. It’s a good sign that Kolb can come in and win the games he has to but until I see him lead this team to a win against a solid team, I can’t say I’m 100% behind him as the teams future QB.  I don’t want him to have to play in the first place. If all goes well, Donovan McNabb will resign with the team and be an Eagle until the day he retires. If that’s the case, it will be at least 3 or 4 years until Kolb even gets the chance to be an everyday starter. Read the rest of this entry »

McNabb vs. Vick

Okay, so I am an avid Donovan McNabb supporter.  Already I have heard people say that if McNabb plays horrible they want Reid to put Vick in.  This makes me disgusted.  Now, I love the Vick signing and I think he can add a lot of things to this team, but when I heard this, my jaw seriously dropped.  Seriously?  I mean really… seriously?  How can someone even think about a move like that.  I don’t care how good Vick is or is going to be, if McNabb is benched and Vick becomes the starter I will lose total faith in the Eagles organization.  Furthermore if fans support it, I will lose total respect for the fans that I thought were the most loyal in the game.

McNabb brought Vick in.  Vick wouldn’t be on the Eagles and maybe not on an NFL team for certain if it were not fore McNabb.  Talk about a team player… a player who realizes Vick can help.   Read the rest of this entry »

What a Healthy Westbrook Means…

We all know the injury tendencies of Brian Westbrook.  He is coming off of a season that he was never fully healthy for and an offseason where he under went ankle surgery.  Behind him on the depth chart there is a talented running back in McCoy, but he is a rookie.  Also, the Eagles have Booker, a player who saw the field basically two plays last year and Buckley, a player who still doesn’t know if he’ll be on the team once September rolls around.  So having Brian Westbrook for the entire season will mean a lot.  Here is exactly what it means:

1.  LeSean McCoy will have time to develop.  It will take pressure off of him and allow him to learn by getting actual reps, but also by watching Brian Westbrook.  McCoy will be a great NFL running back, but if Westbrook isn’t healthy this year, McCoy is in for a long long season. Eagles Sign Michael Vick

One word…interesting. Nobody close to the NFL expected this. We heard the media build up Vick’s signing for a few weeks now and not once did we hear the Eagles name mentioned. To many (including me) Vick signing with the Eagles was not even a possibility.

Well, we live in a crazy world and sometimes things that aren’t supposed to happen do happen. The Philadelphia Eagles signed the former pro bowl quarterback to a one year contract with an option for a second year. This is a shocker and we have been hearing fan opinions from both sides of the fence. Some fans love the signing, some hate it and are even ashamed of the team.

To me, this deal is like the Phillies’ deal with Pedro. It can’t hurt at all and time will tell if it will help. He’s not going to come in and be the same player he was in 2006 when he played his last NFL game. He probably won’t even be the 2nd string QB. But that being said, he really knows the offense and brings a ton of excitement to this roster. There is no end to the exciting, creative ways the Eagles will find to utilize Vick (ex-wildcat). There may not have been a need for him in the minds of many fans but having a player like this around doesn’t hurt. Nobody will forget the horrible crimes he committed but he deserves another shot and it might as well be in Philly.

And to all of you “McNabb haters”, don’t think this signing means an end to McNabb’s run as the Eagles starting QB. If you even had that dumb thought in your head, it has been confirmed by Coach Reid that there is no possibility of that happening.

In case you were wondering, Here is Peta’s official response to the signing:

PETA and millions of decent football fans around the world are disappointed that the Philadelphia Eagles have chosen to sign a man who hanged dogs from trees, electrocuted them with jumper cables, held them underwater until they drowned in his swimming pool, and even threw his own family dogs into the fighting pit to be torn to shreds while he laughed. What sort of message does this send to young fans who care about animals and don’t want to see them be harmed? PETA certainly hopes that Vick has learned his lesson and feels truly remorseful for his crimes–but since he’s given no public indication that that’s the case, only time will tell. At this point, all Eagles fans can do is cross their fingers and hope that they won’t ever have to explain to their sons and daughters what a “rape rack” is and why their favorite player was using one, as Falcons fans once had to.

Top 5 Favorite McNabb Moments

McNabb has been a stellar quarteback in the NFL for many many years, and we are lucky to have him on our team.  He has created exceptional plays all on his own.  He took offenses that had below average skilled players and put points on the board.  Here are my top five favorite McNAbb moments/performances/plays:

5.   Week 11, 2002 vs. Arizona Cardinals- McNabb broke his ankle on the third play of the game.  However that didn’t stop him.  That game he threw for 255 yards and 4 touchdowns…remarkable.

4.  2004 NFC Championship Game-  McNabb got past the game that was holding him back for the previous couple of years.  The Eagles and McNabb got past the Atlanta Falcolns led by Michael Vick with a final score of 27-14. Read the rest of this entry »
