Phillies Add Bullpen Help
Last season the bullpen for the Philadelphia Phillies had their ups and downs. Chan Ho Park added consistency. Brad Lidge was not himself. Is Park the Phillies Top Reliever?
Chan Ho Park has certainly been playing like the best relief pitcher the Phillies have. You would not be able to tell just by looking at his season totals. He has a below average era and a few losses. However those numbers are mostly from his days as a starter and all of the Phillies fans know he has been a changed man in the bullpen.
If you were not sold on Park’s ability to pitch a few solid innings of relief before tonight’s game against the Cubs, you should be now. He pitched 3 perfect innings, fanning five and setting the the Phills up for Werth’s walk off home run. He has slowly become Mr. Reliable and in an often shaky bullpen that is very important.
Before the huge winning streak, the Phillies starters had been up and down. Many nights they would not even get past the 4th or 5th inning. It is situations like these where a pitcher like Chan Ho Park makes his presence felt. He is a guy who could technically be a starter and can go as many innings as needed to help the team out.
Part of the reason he came to Philly was that he had the chance to start and all of his fans in South Korea would know what nights to watch the games. Now they have to tune into every game because you never know when he will be needed. Coming out of the bullpen may not be the ideal role for Chan Ho Park but it is turning out to be a key part of the Phillies success.
