The Sixers are Looking Up
So far, I’m pretty happy with the Sixers’ offseason moves which is something I haven’t said in years.
They traded Dalembert for 2 solid big men that add incredible depth to the roster. They completed yet another coaching search by hiring Doug Collins who was a steal Read the rest of this entry »
Sixers’ Ugly Draft History
It’s easy to get excited about the 76ers getting the number 2 pick in the draft- if they pick the right player, it could turn around the franchise in the next few seasons. The key word there is IF. Looking back on some of the Sixer’s previous draft selections, it’s clear that they don’t always make the right move.
They have found some gems like Charles Barkley, Mo Cheeks, and Allen Iverson, but wait till you see some of the players they picked and the people they passed on to get them.
1993 - The Sixers used the 2nd overall pick to select Shawn Bradley out of BYU. There was a lot of excitement around this guy (he even had a role in space jam) but he only played 3 seasons with the team and ended his career with only 8.1 ppg. Players that went after him in that draft include: Read the rest of this entry »
Welcome to the Doug Collins Era
In one of their seemingly better coaching moves in recent memory, the 76ers have hired Doug Collins to 4 year contract to coach the team. He’s one of the three coaches I wanted them to hire when they were going through their search.
While it’s still too early to tell if he is the answer to their problems, it’s a step in the right direction. It’s the first time I’m pleased with their decision since they hired Mo Cheeks in 2005.
It seems like year in and year out, they pick the absolute wrong person to lead the team. The fan’s know it from the start but it takes management a year of awful play to realize they need to try again. Read the rest of this entry »
A Pick that Could Change It All
If you caught the NBA Draft Lottery in between the Phillies and Flyers games last night, you witnessed an exciting moment in the history of the franchise. The Sixers, who had a horrible season, had luck on their side and landed the 2nd overall pick in the June 24th NBA Draft- a pick that can change the path of this franchise for the next decade.
They were expected to get the 6th pick and the results went as planned from pick number 14 to pick number 7. When it hit pick number 6, the Sixers name never showed up. It got down to the top 3 and the announcer showed the New Jersey Nets card. Finally, the Sixers card came out at number 2 and they walked away with one of the luckiest bounces in team history.
All season, the attention has been on John Wall and Evan Turner. The draft lottery was being called the John Wall sweepstakes Read the rest of this entry »
5 Days Until the Lottery
And with the first pick in the 2010 NBA draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select…
Wouldn’t that be nice to hear later this Summer when the draft rolls around? Well in order for that to happen the Sixers need some luck on their side in next Tuesday’s (May 18th) draft lottery.
The Sixers finished with the league’s 6th worst record at 27-55. They helped their cause a bit at the end of the year by going 2-8 in their final 10 games. But it still gives them only enough ping pong balls to have a 5.3% chance at landing the top pick in the draft - far less than teams like the Nets and T-wolves who are destined for the top 2 picks. Sixers Hurt Their Lottery Chances With Every Win
The Sixers have thrown together a small, 2 game winning streak over the past few days. They seem to be playing better basketball now even though its far too late and now hurting their chances at landing a top pick in this summers draft. With 9 games left they are 4th from the bottom in the Eastern conference and 7th from the bottom overall and they are heating up a bit at the wrong time.
Sixers Still Not Looking at a Top 5 Draft Pick

AP Photo
The Sixers are 2-12 in their last 14 games but their overall record is 24-46 which is still 8th from the bottom. For the fans, the season has been long, dismal and difficult to watch but they have been winning just enough games that they aren’t in the running for the top 3 picks in the draft.
One of the biggest ways this team can turn things around this off season would be getting a top 4-5 draft pick. Read the rest of this entry »
Sixers Weekly Preview

Weekly Prediction: 2-2
The Sixers have a busy week with 4 games between Tuesday and Sunday. Of those 4 games only one of them is against a team with a record worse than their own. The Cavs have all but locked up the top spot in the East and the Heat and Bobcats are in a close battle for the 7th and 8th playoff spots.
The Pacers (20-43) are the worst of the 4 and happen to be the first game of the week. The Sixers are riding off a big double-digit win against the Raptors and should be able to lock this one up. The teams have been pretty evenly matched this year though. That was evident back in January when they played back to back games and each team won 1 by at least 10 points. Sixers Get the Celtics Tonight
The Sixers are riding a 4 game losing streak into town tonight for a home game with the Boston Celtics. On this four game losing streak, the Sixers are playing some of the league’s best but losing by large margins. They lost each game by an average of 15 points. The games aren’t even close and it shows us where the Sixers really stand.
They have a chance to pull out of this slump tonight though. They will be home against Boston who is currently the 4th seed in the East. But the Celtics have had their share of troubles as of late. Injuries and age have slowed down the big three and they even lost to the NETS last week. If the Nets can do it, the Sixers have a shot. Read the rest of this entry »
