For the Phillies, it Feels Like 2007
If it feels like 2007 to you too, that’s because that was the last time the Phillies were this far back in the division. With last night’s loss to the Braves, the Phillies fell to 6 games back- the furthest back they’ve been since September 2007. It’s not insurmountable but it’s not something this team is used to.
That stat explains how good they’ve been over the past 3 years but also how bad (and unlucky) they’ve been this season. I would have to say it’s been an even mix of bad luck and poor play.
Chase Utley, Placido Polanco, Carlos Ruiz, J.A. Happ, Ryan Madson, Chad Durbin, Antonio Bastardo, Jimmy Rollins, Joe Blanton, Brad Lidge, and Brian Schneider are all big time players that have seen the disabled list at least once this season so far. Read the rest of this entry »
Phillies’ Poor Performance Hurt Potential All Stars

ahh... the memories (thefightins.com)
Last year at this time the city was buzzing about how many All-Stars the Phillies had. They had 5 All-Stars on the final roster including the entire outfield. Victorino even won a world-wide vote for the final spot on the NL squad. So far this season, things are very different.
The game is still a bit away, which means players may get injured and managers may have to fill spots, but as of now they only have 3 all-stars. Worse yet, Utley is injured so the only starter representing the Phillies can’t play. Read the rest of this entry »
Halladay Can’t Stop The Reds
The Phillies and Reds played a day game today but Halladay wasn’t on top of his game. It was a pefect day for a ball game in Cincinnati but the Phillies didn’t come to play
They got an early lead which is never a bad thing. Through the first 5 innings each team had five hits but the Phillies made theirs count and the Reds couldn’t get a run. In the 4th inning the Phils got help from an unlikely contributor in Dane Sardinha. Dane hit a 3 run homer that brought in himself, Ibanez and Valdez.
Things looked promising but that homer ended up being the only runs the Phillies would score all game. Read the rest of this entry »
Don’t Bring Pedro Back to Start!
The Phillies have been talking to Pedro’s agent. Even though Amaro stated that they’ve had no contract talks and the Phillies have no immediate plans to see Martinez pitch, I think that’s a sign that they’re interested in the nearly 39 year old pitcher.
Didn’t they learn their lesson last season when he was responsible for half of their world series losses? If he’s cheap and looks like he can handle an inning or two from the bullpen, I would be open to bringing him back. But he definitely should not return as an everyday starter.
He started off great when he joined the Phils last year and got everyone excited. He went 5-1 with an ERA under 4 in the regular season. Then he abruptly ran out of gas in the playoffs- just a few months after returning to the game. He had nothing in the World Series and only averaged 5 innings per game in his 2 losses. Let’s Trade for Cliff Lee
It is becoming clear, based on reports by Sports Illustrated and other respectable sources, that Cliff Lee will not finish the season on the Mariners. Their team hasn’t come anywhere close to their expectations. It doesn’t have anything to do with Cliff Lee though- he only has 9 starts but has 4 wins and an ERA under 3. Doc Throws a Gem but Loses AGAIN

Philadelphia Daily News
Roy Halladay pitched a gem last night but the Phillies’ bats were MIA once again and they got shut out for the 6th time in less than a month. They brought in arguably the best pitcher in the game and he’s still 8-4 because the defending NL Champs can’t back him up with runs.
This is the second time the Phils have done this to Roy Halladay this season Read the rest of this entry »
Who Is Jesse Biddle?
The 2010 MLB First-Year-Player Draft started last night and with the 27th pick, the Phillies took left-handed pitcher Jesse Biddle. He’s a local kid from Germantown, PA with a lot of potential.
Biddle is a high school senior at Germantown Friends School where he went 9-2 with a 1.06 ERA and struck out an incredible 140 batters in less than 60 innings. He’s a big guy- standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 pounds. As for pitches, the guy throws a fastball in the 90’s to go along with a curveball, slider and changeup.
Biddle seems to fit well into their farm system because the Phillies were in need of a solid left handed pitcher. Read the rest of this entry »
Is The Slump Over?
After going 2-9 over the past few weeks and scoring only 14 runs during that span, the Phillies showed signs of life against the Padres this weekend. But is their offensive slump over?
They went 2-1 this weekend but they scored 5 runs in Sunday’s loss so it wasn’t too bad. They were also playing the Padres who are off to a hot start this season and currently have the best record in the National League. Read the rest of this entry »
The Phillies Fall From First Place
It has finally happened…the moment we’ve been dreading as Phillies fans. The Phillies have fallen out out of first place in the NL East.
We went through the last 13 games watching the Phillies lose 9 of them and only average 1.69 runs per game. But we kept making up excuses for it by saying “We’re still in first place so there’s nothing to worry about”. Read the rest of this entry »
