The Roller Coaster Ride Continues

Matt Rourke, AP
Just when things are looking up again, the Phillies take us back down.
Last week they were swept by the Astros in an utterly embarrassing 4 game series. The Astros tend to give them trouble but no team that’s hoping to make a third straight World Series should be getting swept by one of the league’s worst this late in the season.
They proceeded to get our hopes back up in their next series with the Padres. Going into the series, the Padres were the best team in the NL and it made me kind of nervous that they just got swept by the Astros. We all know what happened though. They rebounded big time and swept the Padres. Read the rest of this entry »
A Series of Familiar Faces
Any time the Phillies play the Astros there’s a good chance they’ll run into some familiar faces since Ed Wade scoops up nearly every player the Phils get rid of and most recently worked out a blockbuster trade between the two teams. So it wasn’t suprising to look at this week’s projected starters and see that half of the starting pitchers the Phils will go up against in the series were on their team last season.
The series starts off tonight with Brett Myers on the mound. It’s his first appearance in Philly since joining the Astros and it will be interesting to see how the fans greet the team’s former ace (my how things have changed…). Read the rest of this entry »
Phillies Weekend Preview: vs Nats
Even though the Phillies have been so hot over the past 10 games, they can’t make up any ground on the Braves and are still sitting at 2.5 games back. They got a bit of a lead in the wild card and could use a good showing this weekend against Washington to strenghten their lead.
When they’re playing the Natinals, the Braves will be playing the Cubs Read the rest of this entry »
Phillies Take NL Wild Card Lead
After a good showing this weekend against the Mets, the Phillies find themselves atop the NL wild card standings but are virtually tied with the San Francisco Giants- who they happen to play this week.
The Phillies took their series with the Mets 2 games to 1 but it didn’ t help them gain any ground on the Braves. Atlanta also took 2 games from the Dodgers and are still leading the division by 2 games over the Phils. The Braves finish their series with LA tonight and then get the Nationals for 3.
The fact that Atlanta plays one of the NLs worst teams Read the rest of this entry »
Phillies Weekend Preview: @Mets

Hopefully Victorino is hot in his first full series since returning from his injury.
Coming off one of the most exciting games of the season (2nd to Halladay’s perfect game on my birthday), the Phillies travel down the road to New York to visit the 3rd place Mets.
They’re only about 5 days removed from their last series with the Mets in Philly. They took that series 2 games to 1 and really hurt the Mets chances at making a playoff push. A sweep this weekend will all but knock them out for good- how awesome would that be? Here’s a quick breakdown of this weekend’s games. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about who the Mets will send to the mound. Read the rest of this entry »
The Phillies Seek Redemption

I put this picture in because he's the man.
This weekend, the Phillies play their first series against the Mets since May 25-27th when they got SWEPT in New York. It was an aweful series in which the Phillies couldn’t even score a single run. To me it was the worst series the Phillies have played in years.
This weekend is their first chance to make up for it and it comes in front of their home crowd. They will be up against one of the same starters that gave them trouble in the last series but the Phillies are a different team now with a totally different mentality.
The series opens tonight with Blanton on the mound against Jon Niese. Jerry Manuel rearanged the Mets rotation in order for Niese to pitch becuase he thinks he’ll do better against the Phils. Read the rest of this entry »
Let’s Try This Again…
About a week ago, we witnessed the Phillies debut of Roy Oswalt and it didn’t meet our unfairly high expectations. We were spoiled with the debuts of Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay in the past year and thought Oswalt’s first outing would be the same- boy were we wrong.
He allowed seven hits, five runs, two walks and hit two batters in a loss Friday to the Washington Nationals. Read the rest of this entry »
Hottest Tickets in Philly this Fall
The Phillies are in the heat of another pennant race and they’ll hopefully be playing into October. However, besides them, the other 3 Philadelphia sports teams will be starting up and there are some exciting games that Philly sports fans might want to get tickets too.
The Flyers announced their schedule a few weeks ago and the NBA has yet to release a full schedule but the Sixers already know when they’ll be seeing the Heat. The Eagles have some good games at home as well. Here are the top three games in Philly this Fall (in no specific order). Save the dates.
1. Sixers vs Heat - October 27th
We don’t have to wait long to see the Miami Heat. The Sixers open the season with them on October 17th. It will be the first game of the year played in the newly named “Wells Fargo Center”. Read the rest of this entry »
The Next 2 Weeks Will Tell Us A Lot
After a below average weekend showing against the Nationals, the Phillies get a much needed day off. It’s their first day off since the All-Star break and it comes at a time when players like Ryan Howard need a rest and they were nearly swept by the team in the basement of their division.
On Tuesday, they start back up again and the next 2 weeks will tell us a lot about the rest of the season. Read the rest of this entry »
Phillies Weekend Preview
Wow it’s really the weekend again? Well another weekend, another series for the Phillies. Tonight they open one against the Nationals in the nation’s capital and I don’t think there’s any reason they can’t stretch the curren winning streak to 11 games.
Since we did our weekend preview last week, the Phillies have been on a tear. On their current winning streak, the team ERA is under 2.0 and they have outscored the opposition 46-17. That’s incredible. The even better part is they’ve climbed back from 7 games behind the Braves to only 2.5. Here’s a preview of their next 3 games.
Friday: Roy Oswalt (0-0, 0.0) vs Craig Stammen (2-4, 5.50)
Technically those are Oswalt’s numbers because he’ll be making his debut for the Phillies tonight. Read the rest of this entry »
