Nova and Temple Put Philly on the Map
Philadelphia is becoming pretty well known for mens college basketball. Right now, they could be considered one of the top cities in the nation for mens hoops. Villanova is currently ranked number 4 in the nation, and underdog Temple University is ranked 19th. Having two teams being nationally recognized is no easy task, let alone having two teams in the top 25 in both polls. Villanova has been a national powerhouse for years and is known for their great guard play. Temple is new to the national scene. Just in the recent years have they been starting to build a program that could compete with the major teams, and this season they are becoming a team that could make a push in the tournament.
Villanova has only one loss this season, and ironically it was to none other than the Temple Owls. At that time, Nova was ranked 3rd, and Temple was unranked which made it one of the biggest upsets of the year. With Scottie Reynolds and Fisher in the front court they Villanova has two guards that can run with the best. They are front runners in the Big East, however Syracuse is right on their tail being ranked #5 in the country. The Temple Owls play in the Atlantic 10 Conference. They are currently the best team in the conference. Xavier is usually a team that makes the tournament however this year they have 5 losses and don’t seem to be playing at as high of a level as they typically do. Temple’s three losses came to Georgetown (first game of the season), St. Johns, and Kansas. Both of these teams are sure to make the tournament baring no late season fiasco. Nova will be looking at a 1 or 2 seed, while Temple, if they continue to win games will be a solid 9-12 seed.
