I can’t seem to get away from the McNabb trade talks. There’s speculation and rumors about him going to a ton of teams and ESPN has non-stop stories about how his future depends on Favre and Warner’s retirement decisions. Today Kurt Warner announced his retirement which many say may open up doors for McNabb to be traded to Arizona where he has a home and spends his offseason training.  The world is still waiting on Favre’s decision (and may waiting be until late August) but if the Eagles trade him to Minnesota as Brett’s replacement, it would be one of the worst moves they could make.

First of all, I’m not a fan of them trading McNabb this season and I think that getting rid of him would be a dumb idea to begin with. But the thought of them sending him to the Vikings to replace Favre is nonsensical for one reason- It would make Minnesota the NFC favorites.

As we witnessed this season, that team is on the brink of a Super Bowl. They were hot all year and demolished the Cowboys on the way to the NFC Championship game. The only reason they aren’t getting ready for the Colts next Sunday is a few dumb turnovers. They had the Saints’ number in that game but it just seemed like they didn’t want it.

They have arguably the best running back in the NFL (Peterson), a tough defense and possibly the most dangerous group of young receivers in the league (tight race between them and Philly). As we saw this year, the only thing this team needed was a QB. Jackson couldn’t cut it out the Super Bowl.

Adding McNabb to the mix in Minnesota would make the Eagles road to the Super Bowl travel through Minnesota for the next few years. It would make the Vikings the team to beat in the NFC and probably set the Eagles back a year or two. Eagles fans would not only have to watch a season with the Eagles out of the playoffs but we would be watching McNabb reach the Super Bowl in a purple jersey. Yes I said it- He would reach the Superbowl as a Viking before the Eagles do.

There’s no official word yet and as of right now these trade talks are all just rumored possibilities. But judging by the attention the McNabb story has gotten it seems like him going to Arizona or Minnesota is not out of the question. If he ends up on one of these two teams, the Eagles deserve what they will get. It’s a dumb idea to trade him but if they’re going to do it they better not keep in him the NFC.
