Eagles Biggest Offseason Need Is __.
We did it for the Phillies and now it’s time to ask the same question for the Eagles. This time it’s a bit more difficult because clearly, the Eagles have a lot more needs and holes than the Phillies did after nearly winning the World Series again. They have a TON of problems which makes this an interesting question. You can look at pretty much any position out there (with exceptions to WR, FB, TE, Special Teams) and say they could make improvements or changes. There’s no doubt that some changes will be made but now’s our time to figure out the ones we want to see.
So Fill in this question in the best way you can:
The Eagles’s Biggest Offseason Need Is _______.
Our Opinion: Secondary help. Linebackers were a close second but the return of people like Stewart Bradley from injury will help a lot with that. Same goes for other positions that the Eagles were weak in this year like the Offensive Line.
The secondary, however, was pretty much healthy all year but the group of players that the Eagles put together for 2009 just didn’t cut it. As of right now, both of the safety positions are the biggest needs. They have one pro bowl corner in Samuel and currently have Sheldon Brown under contract and he was deserving of a pro bowl spot as well. The problem is anything can happen with Sheldon who is already unhappy with his contract. If they lose Brown to some contract dispute, then bringing in a new starting corner is a huge priority because their backups aren’t full time starting quality.
As for the safety positions, they just simply didn’t do enough to make up for Dawkins leaving and were weak in both positions at times. Their weaknesses were especially evident in the last 2 games against Dallas where Romo and the Cowboys’ receivers were having their way with this secondary.
The help here can come from 3 different areas. To start they can use some of their many draft picks on young talent. Secondly (depending on what happens with Brown) they can move players around to different spots. Macho Harris was originally a corner and maybe he would fit better there. Lastly, of course, free agency. It is still unknown who will be available or who will remain with their current teams but if there is someone worth while, they could go after them. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
