Emery Stone Cold Last Night

The Flyers chose not to resign either of their goalies that were on their roster last season.  This decision was very questionable and drew a lot of criticism.  When a team lets go of both of their goalies, it because a necessity to fill that gap with a player that is a proven starter and that the team and fans have full confidence in.  The Flyers did that somewhat when they went out and got goaltender Ray Emery.

Ray Emery has a Stanley Cup victory.  However he failed to be picked up by any team due to his attitude and antics.  He played in Russia and last night was his first regular season game back in the NHL.  Being removed from the NHL left a lot of questions that needed to be answered about Emery.

However, last night Emery showed a lot of things to the team, organization, and fans.  He was shot on twenty-eight times and let in zero goals.  Shutout.  His performance shows that he can still play in the NHL at a very high level even with missing time like he did.  He was moving quickly, reacting quickly, and making smart decisions.  He was everything the Flyers are hoping he can be the whole season last night.  His potential is there and shown, now the question of consistency needs to be answered.  If the Flyers wanted a goaltender who was good, but not on a consistent basis, they would have resigned Biron.  They took the risk, and after the first game, Emery showed that his  upside is there.
